2013 Tax Preparation Answers & Offers
Thinking about filing taxes? You’re not alone. It’s that time of year again and questions are beginning to trickle in. I thought this would be a good time to answer some of those questions.
What Kinds of Tax Services Do We Provide?
Symmetry is a full-service CPA firm providing tax preparation services to individuals and small businesses.
In simple terms, this means we will be happy to prepare your IRS Forms 1040 EZ, 1040A, 1040 (with all Schedules A, B, C, D, F, etc.) for individuals.
For small businesses, we are qualified and experienced in preparing tax returns for those who are self-employed or are single member LLCs. We will prepare the required information returns for LLCs (IRS Form 1065). Symmetry also prepares Partnership S-Corporation information returns via IRS Forms 1065 and 1120S, respectively.
State & Local
We know that state and local taxes can be tricky and often our clients have multiple state and local returns to be prepared that are interdependent on each other. Symmetry is experienced in and will work with local municipalities to prepare tax returns in accordance with their regulations.
How are We Different from Franchise Tax Preparation Offices?
As a CPA firm, Symmetry does more than just collect forms, enter numbers into a computer, then deliver a tax return. Our CPAs typically start by comparing the current year’s information to the prior year returns and, for new clients, looking over several prior returns to get a good understanding of the client’s situation.
Often we will follow up with additional questions based on information revealed during a detailed review. These questions form the basis for recommendations to “fix” an error or issue based on prior year filings or planning strategies that could save taxes in the future. We may go through one round of Q&As or several rounds — as many questions as it takes to feel satisfied that we have covered everything relevant for that tax year.
Do We Support eFiling and Tax Refund Direct Deposit?
Starting in 2011, the IRS required tax return preparers who prepared more than 100 returns for compensation to file all the returns they prepare electronically. Starting Jan. 1, 2012, that number changed to 11 or more returns. So we e-file all returns, unless they do not qualify for electronic filing or contain forms that require paper filing. Of course, as the client, you can opt out and choose to mail your return to the IRS yourself, but we cannot make that decision for you. Also, our tax software fully supports direct depositing of funds.
What Rates Do You Charge?
Our philosophy on pricing is to align our fee with the value of service we are providing. We call this value pricing. I am sure that we are not the least expensive in the area, but that is not our objective. For example, I would personally be willing to pay a higher fee for a more comprehensive service—such as a mechanic or plumber who honestly evaluates my situation rather than just fixes the obvious problem or a landscaper who not only trims the hedges, but also offers excellent design guidance. We focus on delivering the best value and price accordingly.
As each client’s needs are unique, each rate will be different. We hold an up-front candid discussion with you regarding the tax preparation services you require and come to an agreement on the best value for those services. Now, that does not mean that we are willing to compromise our value to provide you with the lowest price possible. It does mean that we are willing to work with you to find an affordable solution to your tax preparation needs.
Do You Offer Any Discounts?
Typically, we choose not to discount our value pricing, as we do not wish to compromise the competence of our services. However, we wish to honor our American heroes by offering a 25% discount to all active duty military. Simply show your military ID card to us and we will be thrilled to provide this discount.
As an added—and limited-time benefit—we are also offering a 20% discount to clients who mention and provide the following coupon at the time of their initial consultation.
